Heritage Lottery Fund grant to H&TCA provides new opportunities

Before Essex Way was built
From the Hewson Osborne Collection: by kind courtesy of the Osborne family

The Hadleigh & Thundersley Community Archive has just been awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund grant to enable them to build their definitive collection of old images of Hadleigh, Thundersley and Daws Heath. Simply click on this picture and (in just a few moments) it will open up on your screen larger, showing you the wonderful quality which we are able to achieve from even an old, tatty and faded postcard.

If you (or your family or friends) have old photos of forebears who lived in this area, or depictions of old street scenes, or other images which reveal what life was like for our past generations, do get in touch as soon as possible (using the link below) and it may be that we can offer you a completely free professional scanning and restoration service in exchange for your permission to archive your images for posterity. It’s almost like winning the Lottery (but you don’t even need a ticket!).

  • I have 3 Photos of cottages Nos. 1,2 and 3 End Way, Sth Benfleet  they became 62,64, 66. Essex Way. These are older-looking cottages than the pictures in any Benfleet history books.
