This 29th January 2014 rerun of the H&TCA Free Slide-show will again mostly focus on Hadleigh.   { An equivalent slide-show with more Thundersley content is being considered for future display.}

HOFS was packed out for November's free slide show from  Hadleigh & Thundersley Community Archive.  Our apologies to those who were turned away. Patrons who have not yet done so are respectfully invited to reserve their seats now for Wednesday 29th January 2014 at HOFS from 2 pm to 4 pm where you can participate to identify people, places and events in pictures from times past.

Reservations by e-mail to hadleighhistory@gmail.com  or use the message service at 01702 552668.

Once again, admission is free  and modest refreshments will be provided;  for which retiring financial contributions would be appreciated.

You will also be able to examine and buy Hadleigh Postcard Memories (£9.99) and the Illustrated Historical Guide map (£1.50); the proceeds of which are ploughed back into the work of the Archive, including creating and publishing the next books in the series - which will be……

"Tales Out of School" by Chris Worpole and
"Thundersley and Daws Heath in History" by Robert Hallmann.

Friends of the H&TCA,  this past year the archive volunteers have chiefly been:

researching at Essex Record Office and London Archives;
helping to organize the big dig in Daws Heath;
supporting Fetes, Fairs, Fayres and Big days out with tailored pop-up local history displays;

converting part of a local postcard collection into the attractive Hadleigh Postcard Memories;
researching how Hadleigh School worked in the 19th century;
collecting information on buildings we proposed for adding to the Local List;

creating a unique Illustrated Historical Guide map of the farm and country park area;
running drop-ins at Hadleigh Library and essential contact work;
being at two History Fairs – at HOFS (complete with bananas) and in Leigh

and publishing some of your great archive articles and comments,  [THANKS for these!]

Your own individual archive contributions are very welcome:
it is easy to add to the Hadleigh & Thundersley Community Archive.  Start with a local picture of you, a relative or distinctive place or event, write a few words to describe it and then:

  1. get in touch with us at hadleighhistory@gmail.com, or

  2. click on this site's "How to contribute"  button  or

  3. visit a "drop-in" to meet an editor so we can advise you further.

All articles are reviewed by editors before publishing.
