Photos from the Daws Heath Dig 2013

This gallery of photographs,  taken on 5th and 6th June 2013 during the Daws Heath dig, was displayed on our Community Archive board at Hadleigh Library.   For those unable to make the trip to the Library, here are a selection of the images to see at home!

1   5th June –  Cat Ranson (Cambridge University archaeologist) sorts the equipment for the Higher Education Field Academy students.

2   Setting out the test pit in St Michael’s field – Ages AHA, the local historical and archaeological society, with Malcolm Brown, Tony Manning, Elizabeth Mercer and Martin Taylor.

3   Ages AHA members Geraldine Tigwell and John Keeling, clean the finds and record the different levels of the pit (contexts) as they are dug.

4   Terry Barclay (Ages AHA and Hadleigh & Thundersley Community Archive) with HEFA students at test pit 8.

5   6th June – Dr Carenza  Lewis (Cambridge University and ex TIME TEAM presenter) takes curious Daws Heath residents through the previous day’s finds.

6   Val Jackson (Ages and Hadleigh & Thundersley Community Archive), once briefed by Carenza and Paul Blinkhorn (TIME TEAM) takes over the guided tours!

7  Carenza briefs the “diggers” on how to backfill their test pits and leave the garden as neat as possible at the end of day two.

8  Members of Ages AHA make a fine job of replacing the turf at St Michael’s field, after finding the “natural” at the bottom of their pit on day 2.

9 Dr Carenza Lewis becomes a new member of Ages AHA for a group photo, much to everyone’s delight!

This dig was coordinated by members of the Hadleigh &  Thundersley Community Archive grouphere are the preliminary dig results.
