Josephine James Venue 12 – Estuary Gallery Home Studio Visual ArtistJosephine left college with an HNC in Fine Art, Sculpture and Printmaking and during the last twenty-five years has sold work to corporate and private clients and travelled the world teaching art on cruise ships. She is currently working with watercolours and mixed media. For the 2014 Hadleigh Art Trail (full details can be downloaded from the bottom of this page) Josephine gave a demonstration in using watercolour paints. She created a version of her popular “cutlery” paintings before our very eyes. Using a limited palette of Payne’s Gray, Raw Umber, Yellow Ochre, a touch of Cobalt Blue and a very steady hand the painting began to take shape. Sunday 5th October was a balmy autumn day, and the sun shone into the cosy conservatory where Josephine worked. Around the sides were paintings from other local artists – members of the Westwood Art Group. The abstract painting second row down, on the right of the display board, to the left of the photograph, is by Hadleigh artist Derek Simpson. Josephine’s husband Ian James, who produces fine art photography, also had his images on display in the room adjoining the conservatory.
