Armed Forces Day 2009

Formerly known as Veterans Day

By Ian Hawks

The parade of veterans and guests assemble outside the Council Offices where a short service was conducted prior to the raising of the flag to the sound of a bugler. All retired into the building for speeches and presentations of medals, including medals to Land Army Girls, after which refreshments were served

It was decided that Armed Forces Day would replace Veterans Day, much to the consternation of Merchant Navy Veterans of which I am one.
